Rtn. Alam Singh Roopra was Born on January 14 in Rourkela to Smt. Kartar Kaur and Late Er. Karam Singh Roopra — a renowned civil engineer — Rtn. Alam Singh Roopra completed his early education in Rourkela. He graduated from Sambalpur University, earned a Law degree from Rourkela Law College, and pursued Personnel Management from the Indian Institute of Management Studies, New Delhi.
Professionally, he began his career in the cement industry and played a pioneering role in setting up Odisha’s first mini-cement plant. He extended his expertise internationally by establishing mini-cement plants in Bangladesh and Nepal, and served as Cement Consultant to the Government of Nepal for the Hetuda Cement Plant between 1994 and 2000. Currently, he is actively involved in the real estate sector.
His Rotary journey began in 1985 with the Rotary Club of Birmitrapur. Since then, he has served in various capacities across multiple clubs and the district — including as President, Secretary, District Chairman, and District Secretary General in 2020–21. He was the force behind the formation of several clubs, including RC Rourkela Royal, RC Rourkela Queens, RC Rourkela Smart City, RC Rourkela Vibrant, and RC Rourkela Superstars, and continues to mentor many as Club Advisor.
He is a Major Donor Level 3 and pledged AKS to The Rotary Foundation, and has been honored with numerous awards including:

• Exceptional Leadership in Club Extension and Growth (2022–23)
• Best President (2013–14)
• Outstanding Chairman – Past President Forum
• Multiple Certificates of Appreciation from Rotary and partner organizations
Rtn. Roopra has represented our district at various national and international events — including Rotary International Conventions in Bangkok, Centennial Summit in Kolkata, Presidential Conference in Hyderabad, Foundation Summit in Nepal, and Rotary Institute at Visakhapatnam.
Beyond Rotary, he was Vice President of Brahmani Club, Life Member of Alliance International, Trustee in Paediatric Hospital, Sambalpur, and past General Secretary of Vedvyas Gurudwara. He is also a former Vice President of Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Rourkela. His extensive travels include visits to over 20 countries, enriching his perspective and outreach.
On the family front, he is happily married to Rtn. Harpal Kaur, his strong and supportive life partner in Rotary and beyond. They are blessed with two children Daughter Jaslin, married to Maheep, and blessed with two sons — Avyan and Aveer & Son Harshin, married to Saran, who is professionally associated with an MNC in Bangalore.
The entire family is deeply connected to Rotary, with all members being Paul Harris Fellows — a rare and proud example of a family committed to the ideals of Service Above Self.
